Racing without peas nr. 29

Science doesn't stand still and the sport of pigeon racing has had to follow. Sportsmen have known for a long time that too many endosperms during the

training regime is counter productive. Indeed it is pasta that has found favour whilst training, known as carbohydrate loading. It is obvious that pigeons

can't be fat, but we must try to give them as high reserves as possible in the form of fats during the final days. Top fanciers give extra peanuts, sometimes mixed with sheep fat just to give that additional fat. Peas contain a lot of endosperms especially under the form of the amino acid lysine. But amino acids are construction bricks though not a source of energy. Endosperms are broken down to amino acids but not turned into energy.

On the contrary a surplus in endosperms will be converted into fats resulting in too many fat pigeons, and that is just what we don't need. The success of this mixture lies in this principle To give extra fat reserves for the flight without getting fat. A lot of seeds that are rich of fats are in this mix, such as rape seed, oat, milo corn, sunflower,... and few endosperms. Now just after the flight you can easily give the normal flight mix. Endosperms are needed to rebuild the muscle mass but once you are past this stage you should transfer to this mixture. You will clearly see that it is easier for them to train and perform. With this mixture you will increase the power to the end of the week. Don't forget that this system also is very good for young pigeons.
